What Is With The Republicans!

This week the Republicans are scheduling a vote in the House to remove the ban on silencers, and armor-piercing bullets. The bill also includes a requirement that all the states honor each other state's gun permits so that someone coming to Connecticut that has strict gun carry permits from a state that has virtually no restrictions on gun permits will have to be allowed in Connecticut.
Silencers, Armor-Piercing Bullets: Congress Looks to Roll Back Gun Laws

WASHINGTON — The day House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., was shot in June during a congressional baseball practice, his colleagues were supposed to hold a hearing on a bill to make it easier for Americans to buy gun silencers.

That hearing was postponed because of the shooting, and now Congress may push that legislation back yet again after another shooting. This time, it's the attack in Las Vegas, the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, which critics say would have been even worse if the gunman had been equipped with a silencer.

Meanwhile, Congress may soon take up another bill that has long topped the wish-list of pro-gun groups, including the National Rifle Association (NRA), which would force states to recognize other states' permits allowing residents to carry concealed weapons.
And get a load with the name of the law…
The Republican-controlled House has yet to schedule a vote on the Sportsmen Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act, a wide-ranging bill that includes the silencer provision, but opponents had feared it could come up for a vote as soon as this week.
How do they justify removing the ban on silencers… why to protect the shooters hearing!
The NRA and other supporters say rolling back 80-year-old restrictions on silencers would be an "important safety-oriented aspect of the bill that will help protect the hearing of America's hunters."
Do you believe that bull shit! Pardon my French, but this is not a stupid bill but it puts all our lives in danger. As one headline called the bill “The Hitman Protection Bill” and can you imagine a gunman like yesterday’s with a silencer?

The article goes on to say,
The bill would, among other things, loosen regulations on the sale of armor-piercing bullets, expand gun rights on public lands and shield people transporting guns across state lines from local laws. It would force courts to reimburse plaintiffs' legal fees if they are improperly detained.
What the hell do you need armor-piercing bullets for? Hunting armadillo?
Laws that govern carrying concealed weapons vary widely by state, with some requiring applicants to prove that they need a weapon and have taken a training course, while others have virtually no restrictions at all.

Proponents say the current patchwork is too confusing and want concealed carry permits to work like drivers licenses, with every state recognizing every other's.
So let’s bring it down to the lowest common denominator instead of to one of common sense regulations.

So someone coming from a “Stand Your Ground” state to Connecticut where you have a duty to retreat (except in your home) with they know the law? How will someone know all fifty state laws on guns?

Also the Republicans’ motto of states’ rights seems to apply just to the laws that the Democrats passed like the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

It is opposed by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, by many police and police chief organizations, and by many state governors. So who are in favor of the bill? The NRA and the gun manufacturers.

In Connecticut there is a ban on new high-capacity ammunition magazines, background checks for private gun sales and a new registry for existing magazines that carry more than 10 bullets. and an assault weapons ban. I would like to see a ban on open carry and having to show your gun license when asked by a law enforcement officer.

I can see no need to walk into a store with a gun strapped to your waist.

And yes, I am mad. I am mad that the Republicans are stirring up hate and then making it easier for mass killings.

  1. Our founding fathers had no idea that firearms would evolve to the assault weapons we have today when they ratified the 2nd amendment. I say that anyone should have the right to bear a flintlock rifle, along with a powder horn and a few lead balls. Beyond that, anything more modern should be highly regulated, if not restricted.
