Um… That Is Not Bullying, It Is An Assault

Suspension is a good first step but when you punch and kick someone that is a criminal offense.

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- A 14-year-old transgender student is recovering after she was kicked and punched in the hallway of her high school in Newark last week, and on Monday, demonstrators rallied to show their support.

Members of the LGBTQ community stood outside East Side High School in support of Kylie Perez, after school security cameras captured her being punched to the floor by a male student.

"It's been hard," Perez said. "There's more love than hate. I'm trying to avoid the negative."

The student was suspended and the school district and the city responded, meeting with Perez and her mother and organizing efforts to promote tolerance at the high school. Six others allegedly involved in recording the incident were also suspended.
Other students say the victim caused the assault on her by posting a video mocking the people who attacked her. She videoed a boy who was sexually attracted to her and laughs at him saying that he didn’t know that she was trans. So he and his friends beat her up in retaliation.

Sorry folks, nothing justifies attacking and beating someone up and my guess is that there is probably more to the story. Was the student who made a pass at her bullying by his friends for making the pass, was he “defending his honor” because he was shamed by his “friends?”

I also blame the school administration because by law they must maintain a safe learning environment which they definitely did not do.
