I Want My Mapyo!*

A couple of weeks ago (it seems like a life time), Trump tweeted that,
"After consultation with my and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military,"

"Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail."
We had no other information except for the tweet.

Neither did the Secretary of Defense, nor the Joint Chiefs of Staff, nor other military generals or admirals.

Well we are slowly learning that it was worse than we dreamed of…
An unstable commander in chief: Trump's ban on transgender troops was result of a tantrum

We already knew that Donald Trump's new ban against transgendered troops in our nation's military came as a surprise to military leaders. Now we're learning that the impetus for the sudden policy change was considerably more crude than even detractors suspected.

The short version? Politico reports that Donald Trump announced a ban on transgendered military members because he was frustrated with the government's lawyers trying to explain the implications of such policies to him.

President Donald Trump’s White House and Defense Department lawyers had warned him against the transgender military ban for days. They were concerned about the ramifications of the policy, how military officials would respond and what legal backlash it could cause, two West Wing officials familiar with last month’s discussions said. The lawyers thought there would be plenty of time for more discussions and were analyzing arguments.

Frustrated with being “slow-walked,” in the words of one White House official, the president took to Twitter last week — jarring many in the West Wing out of complacency and startling his lawyers, Defense Department officials and West Wing aides, who learned of the change in a series of tweets.

Apparently, however, it was these discussions themselves that set Trump off. Too dim or hotheaded to grasp the nuances of the issue and too impatient to tolerate substantive explanations of it with others, he instead lashed out with his new, most simplistic "policy" banning transgendered service members apparently as an attempt to stop his own staff from asking him further questions on it.
The administration had no plan in place, but Trump told others they would have to “get in gear” if he announced the ban first, one White House adviser who spoke to Trump said. He also said the announcement would stop the lawyers from arguing with him anymore.
So he did it to get everyone off their butts.

When you stop and think about this has horrible implications for a president.

Right now we are in a verbal war with North Korea. The latest statement for Trump was,
“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States,” Mr. Trump told reporters at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J. “They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening beyond a normal state and as I said they will be met with fire and fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before.”
Can you imagine if he gets frustrated with the way talks are progressing with North Korea and he tells the generals… “Fuck it, lob some nukes at them.”

*Okay, for those who are not of a certain age, a little kid used to say “I want my Maypo” in a cereal commercial and Trump reminds my of that kid,

  1. Let's hope that the back and forth never become the "last straw" and wham bam. Fire and fury, the likes the world has never seen? How about the atomic blast over Hiroshima or Nagasaki? Pretty horrible if you ask me. what is in your promise Mr. Trump? Let's remember that we, the United States is the only country that has ever used atomic weapons. In the modern day world,it seems that the US is the only country that has gone all over the world destroying all that is in their way in their imperialist power grab. That has been and is bombing and drone attacking countries all over the world and trying hard to destabilize countries they do not agree with. So I would conclude it is the US that we should be very alarmed at when a mad man sits in the chair of power.

I think that it is a sorry ass person be they straight, gay, lesbian, bi, or Trans who would ever want to involve themselves in this mess. Compared to the destruction, murder and plunder that is committed by the US military to others around the world, many like us, our discrimination is small potatoes. Tell the woman who just lost her entire family in a drone attack, "Oh I am so sorry miss, I faced discrimination against me at home in the US, couldn't find a job and so I came here to destroy your family and homeland." I am sure she would try hard to beat you to death.

I think it comes down to in these dangerous times, which side are we on, we can either chose death and destruction or love and life. The only way to do this is to change the system. Now that would present another problem as those in power will not give up without a all out fight. Damn I am glad I am old.
