As more companies add GCS to their insurance coverage and interesting thing has been happening, some trans-people have found that many of the surgeons do not accept insurance. Many of the surgeons who do GCS are plastic surgeons who are not use to their patients having insurance coverage.
GENDER DISCRIMINATION REMOVED FROM MEDICAREI believe that is true here in the U.S. now, that the barriers to treating trans-patients have been removed. So if I have a prostrate problem it will be covered by Medicare. However, at this time Gender Confirming Surgery is not covered, but I believe that there have been several legal brief filed to appeal the policy that denies GCS surgery for trans-people.

New changes to Medicare will remove gender discrimination from the health system and remove barriers to some medical treatments for transgender and intersex Australians.
Some of the 6000 services covered by Medicare are only available to men or women, and Federal Health Minister Tanya Plibersek said this has caused discrimination against some people who had been forced to have discussions about their gender identity in order to access a service or claim a Medicare rebate for one.
“If you need a medical treatment under Medicare you should be able to get it without a discussion about or disclosure of your gender - male, female, transgender, or otherwise,” she said.
